KATHMANDU: Dr. Sunil Sharma, Member of the House of Representatives (HoR) elected from Morang Constituency No. 3, has vowed not to commit corruption by touching the Bhagwat Gita during his oath-taking ceremony today at Parliament House.
Along with the oath of office and secrecy, Dr. Sharma vowed not to commit corruption during the swearing-in of parliamentarians.
During the campaign, he said that corruption is like drinking mother’s blood. As a result, he arrived at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor carrying the Bhagwat Gita to take the oath.
All of the newly elected members, including Sharma, were sworn in by senior RPP member Pashupati Shumsher JB Rana. Simultaneously, MP Sharma swore not to commit corruption by touching the Bhagwat Gita.
Parliamentarian Sharma stated that due to recent lies and corruption in Nepali politics, he has vowed to avoid corruption by touching the Bhagwat Gita to support truth and corruption-free politics. “Lies and corruption are now rife in Nepali politics. I believe that we should have truth and corruption-free politics,” said Dr. Sharma, “I have taken an oath by touching the Gita in the Parliament building, I will not do corruption under any circumstances.”
Dr. Sharma, who has established a philanthropic identity, has stated that politics should be established as a field of service to the people rather than a source of income. He has already stated that he will serve the people without being paid as an MP.
Dr. Sharma was elected to the HoR by a margin of 22,736 votes over UML candidate Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal, who is also a former minister.
Dr. Sharma also set a new record within the party by winning by the widest margin among Nepali Congress candidates.
Dr. Sharma treated thousands of poor, orphaned, and elderly people whereas over 700 students have received free education through the doctor nurse scholarship.
