KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered Charles Sobhraj’s release from prison.

The SC’s bench of Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Tila Prasad Shrestha issued an order today to release him from prison and arrange for his return to his home country within 15 days if he is not required to stay in prison in other cases.

In the case of habeas corpus given to the Supreme Court on behalf of Sobhraj, the bench ordered that he should get the benefits provided by law as he has served 19 years of imprisonment and is 78 years old.

Sobhraj is Vietnamese, having been born in France to an Indian father and a Vietnamese mother.

Sobhraj, a notorious criminal around the world, has a history of murder and drug dealing in various countries. He is referred to as a’serial killer’ criminal.
