BHARATPUR: A national workshop for ornithologists and conservationists has begun in Chitwan’s Sauraha.

The sixth national workshop began on Tuesday in Sauraha to discuss bird conservation efforts and future action plans.

The workshop is attended by 60 ornithologists and conservationists from across the country.

Basu Bidari, former president of the Bird Education Society Chitwan, informed that the three-day workshop will focus on the condition and potential of birds in Nepal.

According to him, the workshop will also determine future plans and action directions.

Efforts and policy arrangements for the conservation of endangered species will also be discussed at the workshop organized by Nepal Bird Conservation Association under the management of Bird Education Society Chitwan.

According to Ishana Thapa, chief executive officer of the Bird Conservation Association, 166 bird species are threatened in Nepal. According to him, the workshop will feature papers on the causes of bird extinction, conservation efforts, and so on.

Bird education societies and bird protection workers will share their experiences, and award-winning societies and local conservation support organizations will present operational details at the workshop.

Hari Bhadra Acharya, chief conservation officer of Chitwan National Park, said that it is difficult to save the bird due to human encroachment on the bird’s habitat.

He stated that all relevant agencies should collaborate to protect birds. Nepal has 892 bird species, according to the most recent statistics.
