UML MPs instructed to wear national dress and take oath in Nepali language

The right to take an oath in one's mother tongue and in one's own attire is provided by the constitution.

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has verbally instructed its MPs to take the oath in national attire. Similarly, the party has directed its MPs to take their oaths in Nepali.

Although it was stated that the oath should be taken in Nepali and in national dress as much as possible, this was not followed by written instructions.

The right to take an oath in one’s mother tongue and in one’s own attire is provided by the constitution.

Some UML MPs have also expressed dissatisfaction with this issue.

The newly elected senior member of the House of Representatives (HoR), Pashupati Shamsher Bajra, will administer the oath of parliamentarians at Parliament House New Baneshwor at 1 p.m.
