KATHMANDU: Gagan Thapa, General Minister of the Nepali Congress (NC), has stated that the party will now formally take the initiative to form the government. Thapa stated this after being defeated as the leader of the parliamentary party by President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
He made it clear that he will not join the government. ‘With the party getting the leader of the parliamentary party, the initiative to form the government will move forward.
Talks are also held with the partner parties about the Prime Minister and the President,’ he said, ‘I am preparing for this as a candidate for the leader of the parliamentary party. There was no need for the government to go.’
General Minister Thapa stated that establishing his agenda is necessary. Thank you to everyone who voted for me. I try to win over the hearts of the others. ‘There will be another competition, and I will prepare with the expectation of new results,’ he said. ‘I competed in the 13th Congress, and it inspired me. I received 500 votes at first, then 3000 votes to win. Today’s outcome was unexpected, but don’t get tired or disappointed. I have more thoughts. ‘I will press on with my plans.’
Deuba was elected as the leader of the parliamentary party with 64 votes while Gagan got only 25 votes.
