KATHMANDU: The election of the leader of the Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party is still ongoing.

Voting, which began a little late at the parliamentary party’s office in Singha Durbar, is still ongoing.

The parliamentary party’s office security system has been beefed up in preparation for the voting process.

Journalists are not permitted to enter the office and voters are only made enter by seeing names list.

Sher Bahadur Deuba, President of the Competition Party, and General Minister Gagan Thapa voted. To be elected, the parliamentary party’s constitution requires 50 percent of the votes cast.

NC has 89 members, 57 directly elected and 32 appointed. However, Tek Bahadur Gurung, who was elected from Manang, was unable to vote. He is not voting because the case is still being heard in court.
