Voting to elect the leader of NC parliamentary party begun

No one except voters (members of the House of Representatives) is allowed to enter the polling place.

KATHMANDU: Voting has started to elect the leader of the Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party.

Voting started a little earlier at the office of the NC Parliamentary Party, Singha Durbar, and will continue till 10 am.

No one except voters (members of the House of Representatives) is allowed to enter the polling place.

Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba and General Minister Gagan Thapa are vying for the position of party leader.

Gagan is backed by Shekhar Koirala, General Minister Bishwa Prakash Sharma, and Pradeep Paudel, while Deuba is backed by Ram Chandra Poudel, Bimalendra Nidhi, Prakashman Singh, and others.

Deuba and Thapa registered their nominations on Tuesday. NC has 89 MPs, 57 directly and 32 proportionally.

However, Tek Bahadur Gurung, who was elected from Manang, was unable to vote. He from the establishment party will not vote because the case is still pending in court.

A majority must be obtained in order to be elected as the party’s leader.
