KATHMANDU: The establishment of the leader of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party is still being discussed.

The debate between Dr. Shekhar Koirala and General Minister Gagan Thapa is still going on.

The leaders along with them had a discussion at a hotel in Kathmandu on Monday. Jeevan Pariyar, the party’s Joint General Minister, stated that there was a meeting between Koirala and Thapa prior to the party meeting.

Sources say Thapa, who announced his candidacy for party leader two months ago, has made it clear that he will not back down. Even during the discussions on Monday and today, he has maintained that he will not back down.

Other parties have put pressure on the establishment as a result of his stance. From the establishment side, party President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is a single candidate.

The party leader will be chosen by vote tomorrow morning, and the nomination program will take place today.

Even before the nomination, there is a push to make one of Shekhar or Gagan a unanimous candidate, but the trend seen at the party’s 14th convention a year ago is starting to repeat itself.
