Lionel Messi named ‘World Sports Star of the Year’

KATHMANDU: Argentina captain Lionel Messi has been named BBC Sports Personality World Sports Star of the Year.

The BBC has named Messi the 2022 World Cup winner in Qatar.

The 35-year-old Messi led Argentina to this year’s FIFA World Cup football title. France lost the penalty shootout 4-2 in the final.

Argentina won the World Cup for the first time in 36 years, led by Messi. Argentina won the World Cup for the third time as a result of this.

Messi, a forward for the French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), also won the World Cup Golden Ball. Messi, who was playing in his fifth World Cup, scored a total of seven goals in this tournament.
