14 injured as passenger bus turns turtle in Afghanistan

MAIDAN-SHAR, AFGHANISTAN: A total of 14 commuters sustained injuries after a passenger bus turned turtle in Afghanistan’s eastern Wardak province on Monday, a statement of provincial government released here said.
The accident occurred early Monday outside provincial capital Maidan-shar city when the driver of the passenger bus lost control of the vehicle, which overturned immediately, wounding the 14 travelers including two women, the statement said, adding that some were in critical condition.
Congested roads, old vehicles and reckless driving could be the main reason for road accidents in the war-ravaged Afghanistan, locals said.
On Saturday, an oil tanker exploded on a main highway, and a congested road inside a dilapidated tunnel claimed nearly two dozen lives and injured over 30 others, officials said.
A similar road accident in Afghanistan’s Sari Pul province last Tuesday killed two people and injured 11 others.
