KATHMANDU: A hospital is a medical facility where patients are treated. It may come as a surprise to learn that a patient is married in the treatment room.

However, a man receiving treatment at HAMS Hospital in Dhumbarahi married from his hospital bed.

Naveen Giri, who was in the hospital recovering from appendicitis surgery, married Inka, a German citizen, in the hospital.

Last Dec 13, Naveen and Inka married in Chandragiri.

However, Naveen was hospitalized at HAMS after experiencing a stomach ache the night before the wedding.

He was unable to marry on the scheduled date due to appendicitis. A team led by HAMS Hospital’s senior surgeon Dr. Anuj Parajuli operated on him using the most recent ‘laparoscopic’ technique.

It is risky to marry as soon as the appendicitis surgery is completed and when the wedding date was changed, it was decided that it would only take place in Magh (Jan/Feb).

Inca’s parents and relatives, however, had to return to Germany soon. So Naveen and Inka married in a hospital bed in front of a small group of relatives, doctors, and nurses.

The pain was reduced and the recovery was quick after the surgery thanks to senior doctors and cutting-edge technology, making it possible to marry from the hospital bed the next day.

Naveen was released from the hospital on the third day following surgery.
