NC holding Central Performance Committee meeting today
The meeting will begin at 3 p.m. at the Sanepa Central Office.

KATHMANDU: The main ruling party, Nepali Congress (NC), is holding a meeting of its central executive committee. The meeting will begin at 3 p.m. at the Sanepa Central Office.
The meeting, according to Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel, was called to discuss current political issues. According to the NC Parliamentary Party’s constitution, the Central Committee will form an election committee to select the party’s leader. The meeting today is likely to form the election committee and set the election date.
The Congress has prepared an election for the parliamentary party’s leader for next Wednesday. NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba, General Minister Gagan Thapa, party leader Shekhar Koirala, and others have all claimed to be the parliamentary party’s leader.
Earlier yesterday, Prime Minister and President Sher Bahadur Deuba hosted a congratulatory message and tea party for the party’s newly elected MPs in Baluwatar. During that time, the leaders discussed the election of the parliamentary party and the formation of the future government.
The first party Congress elected 89 members to the House of Representatives (HoR). The constitution of the Nepali Congress calls for the leader of the party’s parliamentary party to recommend a candidate for prime minister. As a result, the debate over who will lead the parliamentary party has begun with the expectation that his party will lead the future government.
The Congress Parliamentary Party’s Constitution states that the members of the HoR elect one of their members as the party’s leader. It is stated that if more than one person runs for the position of leader of such a party, the decision will be made through the election process.
If the leader of the parliamentary party is to be chosen through the electoral process, he or she must receive at least 51 percent of the votes cast.
