Removal of Tharu & Muslims from list of Madhesi communities

KATHMANDU: It has been decided to remove Tharu and Muslims from the list of Madhesi community. The Madhesi Commission has decided to remove Tharu and Muslim communities from the list of Madhesi communities.
Chairperson of the Commission, Dr. Vijay Kumar Datta, said that the Commission decided to remove Tharu in Subgroup 1 and Muslims in Subgroup 2 from the Study Report 2078 on Surname Enumeration of Madhesi Community in Nepal from the meeting held on Dec 6.

Various Tharu and Muslim community associations have stated that Tharu and Muslim communities have distinct identities and civilizations.
Because their identity does not match that of the Madhesi community, they filed a complaint with the Madhesi Commission requesting that they not be placed in the Madhesi cluster.
