KATHMANDU: The controversial ordinance has reached the President’s office.
The government’s Ordinance amending the Criminal Code to exempt prisoners who have been convicted of crimes in various cases and are serving sentences has reached the President’s Office. The ordinance was passed at the Council of Ministers meeting on Sunday.
According to the decision, the government has requested that an ordinance be issued by the President. If President Bidya Devi Bhandari issues an ordinance, it will become legally binding, and those convicted of criminal charges related to political events will be exempt from punishment.
The President appears to have never even verified the bill. As a result, it is unclear whether the controversial ordinance will be issued by the President.
Tika Dhakal, the President’s Office’s communication expert, stated that the ordinance has arrived and that the President will review it. However, it is unclear whether the President will issue this ordinance.
