KATHMANDU: Paddy production in the Palpa district increased by 2% this year compared to the previous year.

According to the Agriculture Knowledge Center (AKC), Palpa, the district produced 32,019 metric tonnes of paddy this year, up from 31,428 metric tonnes the previous year.

Paddy cultivation was carried out on 8,210 hectares of land this year, up from 8,206 hectares the previous year. “Despite insect damage in some areas, paddy production has increased this year,” said AKC chief Kamana Adhikari.

The availability of irrigation, the use of modern technology, and the use of hybrid seeds have all been credited with increasing paddy production, according to AKC information officer Milan Gaire.

Farmers have switched to hybrid paddy seeds in order to increase yield.

They have used hybrid seeds such as ‘Sabitri,’ ‘Hybrid,’ ‘Sanwa,’ ‘Mansuli,’ ‘US-312,’ ‘Shanti,’ ‘Series,’ ‘Khumal-3,’ and ‘Sukka Dhan.’

Paddy threshers, tractor ploughing, and other modern technology have made farming easier for farmers.
