KATHMANDU: Tite, Brazil’s head coach, resigned after his team lost to Croatia in the quarterfinals of the Qatar World Cup 2022.

Brazil was defeated 4-2 in a penalty shootout by Croatia on Friday night.

Following Brazil’s defeat, coach Tite resigned from the 6-year national team tour.

Tite is resigning because “this is a cycle, this cycle is over,” he says. “I said it a year and a half ago, and I stand by my word.” There are other professional trainers who could take my place. My cycle has ended.

Brazil was eliminated from the World Cup earlier this year after losing 2-1 to Belgium. Brazil is the only team to have competed in every World Cup since its inception.

Tite, 61, won the Copa America in 2019. In both the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, he led Brazil to the last eight.
