Minister Chaudhary inaugurates the 3rd phase of Melamchi water distribution
Umakant Chaudhary, the minister of water supply, today inaugurated the third phase of Melamchi water distribution.

KATHMANDU: Melamchi water supply project has started redistribution of water in Kathmandu valley.
Umakant Chaudhary, the minister of water supply, today inaugurated the third phase of Melamchi water distribution.
Minister Chaudhary stated that former Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai’s dream had been realized once more.
He stated that water was brought to Melamchi, which had been damaged by a large flood, but that it was only temporary.
He stated that due to the possibility of another major flood, the water has been turned off in order to save the tunnel during the rainy season.
He has now stated that he will deliver water to Melamchi for a period of twelve months, even if only temporarily.
As announced by the government in the previous fiscal years 2078 and 79, Melamchi water was diverted and distributed through a temporary structure beginning Baisakh 11 (April 24).
Due to the possibility of damage to the project’s head box due to the onset of monsoon and flood, the door to send water to the tunnel was closed on Jestha 18 (June 1), according to expert advice.
