KATHMANDU: Cholendra Shumsher Rana, the suspended Chief Justice, did not appear before the Supreme Court (SC). There was a lot of commotion in the SC premises throughout the day on Wednesday after Rana said he would return to SC. Nepal Bar Association (NBA) staged a sit-in at the SC gate.

However, the suspended Chief Justice Rana did not appear in the SC until 4 p.m. He currently resides in Baluwatar.

Rana had submitted a petition to the federal parliament secretariat claiming that the impeachment imposed by the said parliament was ineffective because the term of the previous parliament had expired, and had also received a letter confirming this. Bharatraj Gautam, Secretary General of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, informed him that the impeachment was ineffective.

Rana was planning to return to the SC based on that letter, but he did not go.

The government has stated that the impeachment motion against Rana is still active and that a decision will be made after the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) meeting.

Government spokesperson Gyanendra Bahadur Karki stated that the impeachment process against Rana is still ongoing and that a decision will be made at the upcoming Parliament meeting.
