KATHMANDU: The police have launched an investigation into Rabi Lamichhane, the chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

The police have launched an investigation into the theft of citizenship and passports from the United States and Nepal.

As a result, the police have demanded answers from both countries’ agencies regarding these documents. The police sought information by writing to the district administration office about the Nepali certificate and the American embassy about the American document.

The police headquarters has requested that the American Embassy provide information on this matter to the foreign ministry via the Ministry of Home Affairs. Following the Ministry of Home Affairs’ request, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will request information from the embassy on this matter.

The letter was sent two days ago, according to police headquarters. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed that the letter from home has not arrived.

The police will make further decisions on this matter after receiving a response from the American Embassy.

It is alleged that MP Lamichhane, who was elected from Chitwan Constituency No. 2, obtained American citizenship without relinquishing his Nepali citizenship. Similarly, a complaint was filed alleging that he currently has previous citizenship that has been revoked.

Despite the fact that a complaint was filed with the Election Commission (EC) demanding that the complaint filed prior to the election be cancelled, the Commission did not make a decision. This matter has now been reported to the police.

The court will now rule on this matter following the police investigation.
