Demonstration of squatters in Maitighar: Desire to negotiate with govt (photos included)
They have demanded that the squatter issue be resolved through negotiation and agreement on alternative solutions.

KATHMANDU: The landless squatters who have been occupying government land throughout the valley gathered on Monday at Maitighar in Kathmandu for a peaceful pressure rally.
They have been living in Banshi Ghat, Thapathali, Shanti Nagar, Shankhamul, Gairigaun, and other Kathmandu neighborhoods, and on Monday, they staged a pressure rally from Maitighar to New Baneshwar.
On Nov 28, the Integrated Bagmati Civilization Development Project and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City clashed when they attempted to demolish the Thapathali squatter settlement. On Nov 20, 33 city police officers were injured, including Metropolitan Police Chief Raju Pandey.
They have been holding various protest programs on a daily basis since then. They have demanded that the squatter issue be resolved through negotiation and agreement on alternative solutions.
Along with the city’s complaint to take action against those who attacked city police on Nov 28, arrest warrants have been issued in the names of several people, including squatter leader Narayan Parishrami.
