Votes count of Syangja-2 is still perplexing, Candidates awaiting the decision of EC
Counting could not begin as some parties, including the UML, accused the alliance of occupying Chapakot booths and casting votes in the names of deceased people.
POKHARA: The counting of votes of the Nov 20 election has been completed in almost all places. The results of Gandaki’s 17 representative assembly and 34 state assembly constituencies have been released.
However, the counting of Syangja 2 remains perplexing. Counting could not begin as some parties, including the UML, accused the alliance of occupying Chapakot booths and casting votes in the names of deceased people. Following the UML’s allegations, the Election Commission (EC) team returned after conducting an on-site inspection.
It’s been three days since the team returned from a two-day study trip. The EC meets on a regular basis. But no decision has been made. Candidates are perplexed because, despite 10 days of voting, the counting of votes has yet to begin.
Both sides continue to protest. The ballot box is kept in Walling Municipality. The UML has accused the Nepali Congress (NC) of occupying the booth and casting fake votes, while the NC claims that the ballot boxes were duly collected after the voting was completed.
UML filed a complaint with the EC, requesting a re-election. The Congress has staged a sit-in in order to demand an immediate count. Election Officer Ramchandra Sharma stated that he would await the decision of the commission. He stated that the EC will make the final decision, after which the rest of the process will begin.
