KATHMANDU: Squatters pelted stones at the metropolitan in Thapathali settlement on the banks of the Bagmati in Thapathali, Kathmandu, when the latter attempted to demolish the illegally constructed huts in the area. When the police attempted to enter the settlement, the squatters began pelting stones at them.
Locals also protested by burning tires on the road.
The area was tense after residents pelted stones at a metropolitan team sent to remove the squatter settlements.
They began throwing stones at the metropolitan team and police claiming that they began removing settlements without alternative arrangements.
Likewise, Dinesh Aryal, City Police Superintendent of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, stated that the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) had also mobilized police in the area.
