Sunsari 1: UML’s Ramesh Kumar Basnet won in state assembly

KATHMANDU: Ramesh Kumar Basnet of the UML has been elected from Sunsari 1 State Assembly (A).

Ramesh Kumar Basnet of the CPN-UML has been elected from Dharan-Sunsari Constituency No. 1 State Assembly (A).

Basnet was elected by a margin of 1,350 votes over Umesh Thapa, the candidate of the Nepali Congress on behalf of the nearest rival Left Democratic Alliance.

Basnet secured 11,102 votes, while NC’s Thapa secured 9,752 votes.

Basnet entered full-time politics after resigning from his permanent teaching position in 2048. Basnet was elected president of the former Panchakanya village by the CPN-UML in the year 2049.

In his second term, he was also elected Borough Chairperson with a large number of votes.
