KATHMANDU: The counting of votes for Ilam’s House of Representatives Constituency No. 1 has not yet begin.

The vote-counting process, which had been halted since Tuesday night, has yet to resume.

The vote counting was halted after the coalition political parties protested, claiming that the staff opened the ballot box without informing the people’s representatives.

Many all-party meetings have been held, but no agreement on vote counting has been reached.

Even the results have not been released since Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Former Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal was trailing on that vote count.

UML candidate Mahesh Basnet surpassed him.

Basnet secured 10,287 votes, while Khanal secured 8,780 votes.
