KATHMANDU: The 22nd FIFA World Cup began in Qatar after 12 years of controversy and criticism since the hosting rights were awarded. The opening ceremony was grandly completed on Sunday at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Rayan, displaying cutting-edge technology as well as a glimpse of Qatari civilization.

The ceremony lasted about 40 minutes and featured seven different presentations. The ceremony featured performances by Jung Kook of the world-famous South Korean band BTS and Qatari singer Fahad Al-Kubaisi. Dreams, a song by Kook, was released today.

The presentation featured the culture of the 32 World Cup participating countries, past host countries, and a representation of tournament volunteers. Morgan Freeman, as well as local artists Ghanim al Muftah and Dana, gave presentations on unity.

So far, all of the World Cup mascots have been shown at the ceremony. Finally, the Qatar World Cup mascot was announced live in a grand manner using a combination of digital and physical media. Qatar’s Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani delivered a speech at the end of the ceremony and announced the opening.
