Election: Voting period come to an end, voter enthusiasm was low

KATHMANDU: The voting period for the House of Representatives and the State Assembly has ended.

The Election Commission (EC) has set the voting hours today from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

However, voter turnout in this election was disappointing. So far, it is estimated that roughly 60% of votes have been cast.

This election was open to 1 crore 79 lakh 88 thousand 570 voters.

According to the commission, a press conference will be held today at 7:30 p.m. to provide information about the election.

Voters who reached at the polling station before 5 p.m., however, will be allowed to vote until a little later. Voting is being attempted at some polling stations that have been closed due to disputes.

Meanwhile, according to the EC, voting in 15 centers across the country has been halted.

Voting in Dolakha, Bajura, Siraha, Nawalparasi East, and other areas has been halted. According to the Election Commission, efforts are being made to begin voting in those locations.

The polling time at Patu Bangun polling station in Tulsipur, Dang, has been extended until 7 o’clock in the evening after it was temporarily halted due to different ballot papers.

The ballot box will be taken to the counting location after the scheduled voting period.

The work of collecting ballot boxes from polling stations is still ongoing, according to CEC Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya.
