KATHMANDU: Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, Chief Election Commissioner, has urged voters to exercise their right to vote confidently by voting in the elections.

He urged people to vote confidently as elections are the foundation of representative governance and the people’s right to govern through their elected representatives is guaranteed.

‘Since the Election Commission is determined to create an environment that is guided and governed by faith, thought, principle, and integrity without being influenced by any unwanted activities, we believe that everyone will have positive cooperation and sincere efforts,’ said Chief Commissioner Thapaliya in a press conference organized by the Election Commission on the eve of the election.

He stated that all necessary preparations for the election’s conduct and management had been completed in a clean, free, fair, and fear-free environment. ‘The preparations have been completed so that the election will be held in a fear-free environment based on the competitive democratic governance system of the people, the sovereign power vested in the people, civil liberties, fundamental rights, child suffrage, periodical elections, and the foundation of the federal democratic republic,’ he said, urging voters to vote.

He shall take legal action against anyone who attempts to take away, rob, destroy, or take possession of ballot papers, ballot boxes, or voting materials, creates or attempts to create unusual situations, attempts to vote repeatedly, or attempts to do any act prohibited by the polling officer in order to impair the fairness of the election.
