KATHMANDU: In preparation for elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and the State Assembly on Nov 20, the security situation along the Nepal-India border in Birgunj district has been beefed up.

Armed police barricaded the main customs road at Inarwa in Birgunj on Friday, preventing the movement of vehicles and people.

Umesh Kumar Dhakal, the chief district officer of Parsa, informed that all points of the district connected to India were closed for 72 hours beginning at 12:00 last night to prevent possible criminal activities from across the border during the election.
