KATHMANDU: Sagar Dhakal, an independent candidate in Dadeldhura, has been fasting.

He announced it in a video message publishing Thursday night and has been fasting in the name of the people of Dadeldhura since today.

His fast will last for three days on the evening of Nov 20. ‘There is silence period today and tomorrow.’ Day after tomorrow is election day. ‘I have vowed to starve with some goal for these three days,’ he said in a video message.

Fasting has religious as well as scientific reasons, according to Sagar. Sagar, a Gulmi-born engineer, has come to campaign alongside Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. Deuba, Sagar, and Karna Malla of the Nepali Congress (BP) compete with independent Bikram Shahi.
