KATHMANDU: Prakash Man Singh, the leader of the Nepali Congress, has expressed his displeasure that the landless, squatters, and unorganized residents of Kathmandu are being tried to be removed during the elections. This work, he claims, violates the election code of conduct.

Speaking at the election assembly held this morning in Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward No. 31 Jagruti Nagar, Singh, who is also the candidate for Kathmandu Constituency No. 1, said he should wait until the Land Commission’s recommendations get released.

In response to the notice to remove settlements on the banks of the Bagmati River, he stated, “Whether there is an all-powerful committee for civilisation, especially whether there is a metropolitan corporation, we all have to wait until the recommendations given in the National Land Commission report are implemented.”

He stated that the government should develop a policy to address unorganized settlements, risky settlements, slum dwellers, and landless people. He promised to discuss the recommendations of the Land Commission report with stakeholders and find a solution to the problem, stating that he will not make false promises like the leaders of other parties.

He stated that he is committed to fulfilling the desires, aspirations, and wishes of squatters and the landless, saying, ‘How much you care, I have been speaking about this matter in Parliament or at public events.’

He also stated that the Democratic-Left Alliance would be the only way to solve the problem of landlessness and squatters. ‘Remove those who are trying to create instability and fear among you,’ he said, calling for a vote on Nov 20 after considering which candidate would win.

A protest is also being held today at Maitighar Mandla at 12 noon in response to the repeated notices issued to evict landless, homeless, and unorganized residents.
