KATHMANDU: The campaign period for the Nov 20 State Assembly and House of Representatives elections ends today. As the’silent period’ begins at 12 p.m. tonight, all parties are holding their final election campaign meeting today.

The ruling coalition is holding a general election meeting in Kathmandu today. The Alliance’s Kathmandu Region No. 2 Election Mobilization Committee will hold the final election meeting in Koteshwor at 2 p.m.

The meeting will be addressed by Maoist Center Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ CPN United Socialists Chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal, Congress General Minister Gagan Thapa, former Speaker Onsari Gharti, the coalition’s common candidate for Constituency No. 2 and others.

For the elections to be held on Nov 20, Gharti, the former Speaker and Standing Committee member of the Maoist Center, Dhruv KC of the Congress in the State Assembly (A) and Bharat Prasad Phuyal of the United Socialist Party (B) are candidates from the alliance in Kathmandu-2.

During the election campaign, UML president KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to address two meetings in his home district of Jhapa today. Chairperson Oli will speak at election meetings in Kakarbhitta, Jhapa Constituency No. 1, and Khajurgachhi, Jhapa Constituency No. 5.

Similarly, Prime Minister and Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, who is currently in the Far West, will attend two election meetings in the Far West. Today, he is scheduled to speak at election meetings in Achham and Kanchanpur.
