EC cancels Mehta’s candidacy, who was sentenced to imprisonment for crime of polygamy

KATHMANDU: The Democratic Socialist Nepal Party candidate Santosh Kumar Mehta’s candidacy in Sunsari, State Assembly Member Constituency No. 4 (2) in the House of Representatives and State Assembly elections scheduled for Nov 20 has been canceled by the Election Commission.

According to Section 13 Clause (f) of the State Assembly Member Election Act 2074, Mehta was sentenced to imprisonment for the offense of polygamy, and as three years have not passed since the date of his sentence, so his candidature has been declared ineligible and rejected.
