KATHMANDU: Political parties and candidates will be unable to conduct election campaigns beginning at midnight tomorrow (Thursday).

According to the Election Commission (EC), no election-related program may be held 48 hours before polling.

“From the night of Nov 17, all work is prohibited; nothing can be done,” said Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari. The Commission had given the parties and candidates 17 days to publicize themselves.

In previous elections, the 48-hour period preceding voting was referred to as the silent period.

The Commission, however, has removed the silent period this time.
