KATHMANDU: The Netrahin Yuva Sangh Nepal Kaski has asked the relevant agencies to make it easier for people with disabilities to exercise their right to vote.

The association has asked the relevant stakeholders to provide transportation for disabled people during the elections for the House of Representatives and the State Assembly on Nov 20, to make polling stations accessible to the disabled, to provide helpers, and to create an environment in which deaf people can communicate in sign language.

The Association has asked the Election Commission, political parties, national and international disability organizations, and other relevant bodies to make it easier for people with disabilities to exercise their adult voting rights.

The Nepalese Constitution of 2072, Section 11 of the Act on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of 2074, and Section 29 of the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities have all guaranteed the right of people with disabilities to participate in politics, but people with disabilities face a variety of physical, social, and communication barriers.

Even if they are qualified, they are denied the opportunity to exercise their adult voting rights due to barriers. As a result, we would like to draw the attention of all concerned parties to the fact that the Election Commission, political parties, national and international disability organizations, and related concerned bodies should take the lead on their behalf to ensure that no person with a disability is denied the right to vote.
