Election campaigning to be halted from midnight tomorrow, border remains closed

KATHMANDU: Candidates and political parties running for members of the House of Representatives and the State Assembly will be able to campaign until Thursday at midnight. On Nov 3, the parties and candidates began campaigning.

From Thursday midnight, it is prohibited to post or share messages, propaganda materials in support of or against political parties and candidates via social media, online, or print media.

Political party or candidate campaign materials should also be removed from within 300 meters of the polling station.

The Election Offenses and Punishment Act states that no candidate or political party may solicit votes in favor or against a candidate or political party from 48 hours before the day of voting until the votes are counted.

To ensure election security, all border crossings with India will be closed beginning at midnight on Thursday, Nov 17.

The government has also worked with Indian officials to close the border crossing from 12 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, until the evening of election day.
