KATHMANDU: Petroleum product consumption has recently begun to decline. According to Nepal Oil Corporation, consumption of petroleum products has decreased in the current fiscal year compared to the previous fiscal year.

Previously, there was an increase in the consumption of petroleum products during festivals and elections, but consumption of petroleum products has not increased despite the approaching elections, according to Binitmani Upadhyay, the corporation’s spokesperson.

According to him, petrol and diesel consumption decreased significantly in Kartik (Oct/Nov) this year compared to Kartik (Oct/Nov) last year.

Sixty-Three Thousand 315 liters of petrol and 135 thousand 812 liters of diesel were consumed until 2078 Kartik 23 (9 Nov, 2021). Whereas 44,513 kiloliters of petrol and 78,426 kiloliters of diesel were consumed until 2079 Kartik 23 (9 Nov, 2022).

Construction work has halted due to a lack of liquidity and a lack of development construction season, and the recent increase in oil prices in the Nepali market compared to India and Nepal has resulted in a decrease in consumption.

Due to the close proximity of the border, the corporation estimates that when tanker drivers pump oil in India, there may be a decrease in consumption when purchasing petroleum products in India.
