KATHMANDU: As the elections approach, candidates are busy courting voters in their respective districts. Candidates are attempting to attract voters and focus the atmosphere toward them through various activities ranging from door-to-door to social media.

Dipendra Lama, who ran as an independent in Kathmandu Constituency No. 3 in State (A), is now actively campaigning against the party’s candidates. Lama, a former ward chairperson of Kathmandu Metropolitan City 6, believes he will win the election. He, a Bouddha resident, claims that voters in his district will vote for him because of the work he did as ward chairperson.

Now, Dipendra Lama, who entered the field as an independent candidate, had been in politics for a long time in the Nepali Congress. In the local elections of 074, he was elected as the ward chairperson of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) 6 from the Nepali Congress.

Lama is well-liked in this district because of his work as ward chairman and his clean image. ‘Congress did not appreciate my contribution to the party and my work among the people,’ says Lama. In every constituency, I was treated with contempt by the party. That’s why I’m leaving the party and going out into the streets.’ Lama received the best ward chairperson award from KMC in 2078 while he was the ward president.

In Kathmandu 3, the Nepali Congress has fielded the outgoing Member of Parliament Chhiring Dorje Lama and UML Chandman Lama (A).

Lama, who ran as an independent candidate for the UML and Congress in this provincial area, which includes Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward 6 and Gokarneshwor Municipality Wards 5 and 9, says voters will face stiff competition.
