KATHMANDU: Tomorrow (Thursday) will be a public holiday in State 1 in mourning for Minister Shekhar Chandra Thapa.

The State 1 government declared a public holiday on Thursday.

Thapa, the state’s Minister of Forests, Environment, and Land Conservation, has been hospitalized with pneumonia and dengue fever since Oct 10.

On Wednesday morning, he died at Nobel Medical College in Biratnagar.

The state government has also decided to half-mast the flag on Thursday. Thapa was also a Nepali Congress candidate in the Morang Constituency 3 State Assembly ‘1’ election on Nov 20.

According to the Election Commission’s (EC) decision, nominations, opposition claims, and the final list will be published in the Thapa area between Oct 10 and 11.

The election will take place on Nov 20.
