Morang 3: Where a candidate has died, nomination process will begin today; election not be rescheduled

BIRATNAGAR: Despite the death of Shekhar Chandra Thapa, the Nepali Congress candidate for Morang 3 State Assembly Constituency No. 1, the election will not be rescheduled.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya stated that the election nomination process will begin today after receiving official notification of the candidate’s death. The Congress will now have to dispatch another person to the field.

‘If a candidate dies seven days before the election date, the election will not be canceled,’ he said. We will begin the nomination process as soon as we receive official information.’

Candidate Thapa was also the State 1 Minister of Forest Environment and Land Conservation. According to Narayan Dahal, the hospital’s public relations officer, he died while receiving treatment at Nobel Hospital in Biratnagar.

Thapa was diagnosed with severe pneumonia. Thapa, who was initially admitted to Nobel Medical College, was referred to Kathmandu’s HAMS Hospital for treatment after his health deteriorated. After three weeks of treatment at HAMS, he was brought back to Biratnagar.
