KATHMANDU: A strong earthquake struck the Doti district in far-western of Nepal early Wednesday morning, killing six people and injuring five others.

The earthquake in Doti destroyed several properties.

Several buildings collapsed and six people were killed in the tremor measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale that struck at 2:12 a.m. on Wednesday in Gairagaun, Purbi Chauki Rural Municipality 3.

Similarly, Meen Bahadur Saud, a local, stated that more than 150 houses in the rural municipalities of Uparkanda and Balkatte had been partially or completely destroyed.

According to Deepa Joshi, Information Officer of District Administration Office Doti, the majority of the houses in Sayal Rural Municipality have been damaged.

She stated that there was damage in other areas as well, and that the exact details of the damage are still unknown.

Six injured people were helicoptered to a district hospital for treatment.

Security personnel has been mobilized as well in the search and rescue operations.

The tremor, which had its epicentre in Doti’s Khaptad National Park, was felt in all districts of the remote mountains, including Kailali.
