Former minister Khatiwada beaten by locals during election campaigning

Candidate Khatiwada claims he was beaten as he went to ask for votes after drinking alcohol.

KATHMADNU: Locals beat up ex-minister Birodh Khatiwada while he was seeking votes.

According to eyewitnesses, Khatiwada, a candidate for Makwanpur Constituency No. 2 in the House of Representatives, was slapped by local while he was campaigning for door-to-door program to ask for vote.

He went door-to-door in Makwanpur’s West Manhari Rural Municipality-4.

Khadka had slapped Khatiwada, a former minister twice as he got out of his car and began to walk to the program venue, police sources said. Candidate Khatiwada claims he was beaten as he went to ask for votes after consuming alcohol.

However, the police claimed that candidate Khatiwada was treated indecently. The area police office in Newarpani arrested Khadka and handed him over to the district police office in Makwanpur.

According to the police, whether or not candidate Khatiwada drank alcohol will be determined only after a medical examination.
