Morang-6 voters believe that ‘this year Shekhar will win; having a leader like him is a source of pride.’
Senior Nepali Congress leaders are also campaigning for Koirala in order to create an atmosphere favorable to him. They are dead set on winning Shekhar Koirala this year.
BIRATNAGAR: Dr. Shekhar Koirala, the joint candidate of the Left-Democratic Alliance for Morang Constituency No. 6 Member of the House of Representatives, is gaining ground by the day.
Senior Nepali Congress leaders are also campaigning for Koirala in order to create an atmosphere favorable to him. They are dead set on winning Shekhar Koirala this year.
Shambhu Chaudhary of Morang Budhiganga Rural Municipality-7 is voting for the first time this year. But he has decided to vote for Dr. Shekhar Koirala. “Dr. Shekhar Koirala is my favorite leader; if he wins, not only our region, but also Morang, will develop,” he says.
Like Chaudhary, another young voter, Sandesh Bajgain, is also openly in favor of Koirala. Despite coming from a communist family, he says he will vote for Dr. Shekhar Koirala this year. He also urged other young people to vote for Koirala, an influential leader who has always advocated for the happiness of his community despite being defeated in the previous election. “Dr. Koirala will now lead national politics from Morang,” Bajgain says, adding that “Morang 6 is proud to have a leader like him.”
Chaudhary and Bajgain are just two examples; this year, Koirala chose many young people who voted repeatedly. Not only the youth, but also the senior citizens interviewed during the election campaign, believe Koirala will win this time. Shyamraj Rajbanshi of Budhiganga has turned 81 since the last Ashoj (September/October). In Koirala’s election campaign, however, he is walking with a stick.
‘Shekhar Koirala is a person who can lead the country,’ he said. This region would develop if he was defeated and sent away.’ Rajbanshi describes Koirala as a clear speaker. Sabina Dahal, whom I met during the campaign, insisted on winning the alliance.
Meanwhile, Koirala has stepped up his election campaign by visiting various Morang area number 6 wards and villages. He is meeting with voters to learn about their happiness and local issues. Jeevan Acharya and Kedar Karki are the candidates for the Morang Region No. 6 State Assembly seat.
