Prachanda’s strategic plans for development of Gorkha (full text)

KATHMANDU: CPN Maoist Center Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has proposed a Gorkha development strategy. On Sunday, he announced 45 plans of strategic importance.

He has issued a letter of commitment in which he pledges to protect roads, education, health, tourism promotion, agriculture, herbs, commercial animal husbandry, skill training, literature, and arts and culture.

He has also claimed that Gorkha will be the starting point for economic development and prosperity.

These are the plans:-

1. Palungtar Airport will be rehabilitated and Palungtar will be developed as an original smart city.
2. The implementation of the 1200 megawatt multi-purpose Budhigandaki hydropower project of national pride will be started immediately. All other hydroelectric potentials will also be pursued.
3. Palungtar Municipality 7 will be in Chyangli, but the implementation of the agricultural campus under the University of Agriculture and Forestry will be conducted despite the decision of the government and Gorkha’s M.V. And the overall educational development will be advanced by expanding the technical education and solving the problems of the education sector by organizing the various campuses.
4. Strategically important Benighat-Arughat-Larke (Ruliya Border) connecting the border with Tibet. The construction of the road section will be completed.
5. Lifting, pumping with river control in the fertile tars of Palungtar, Gaikhurtar, Chyanglitar, Dhuwakottar, Kundurtar, Buddhasintar, Muchchoktar, Buttar, Gyalchoktar, Arutar, etc., as well as in the forts of Daraundi River from Nibel to Ambruwa in Gorkha. And plans will be carried forward to increase agricultural production by managing irrigation through the plan of canals. Cooperative, private and government sectors will be used to make the district self-sufficient in production.

The Gorkha district will be developed as a tourist destination.

(a) Liligkot, Budhikot, Lakangkot, Siranchowk Gadi, Sulikot, Takukot, Barpak, Gorkha Durbar, Mankamana will be developed as a historical and religious tourist circuit.
(b) Efforts will be made to include Sirandanda-Nimche Pokhari-Dudh Pokhari-Nage Pokhari-Narad Pokhari in the list of national tourism plan to promote mountain tourism.
(c) Initiatives will be taken to develop Siranchowk, Bhachek Sirandanda, Ajirkot and North Gorkha’s Barpak, Ruwi Nala, Manaslu Footpath, Larke Pass etc areas as Himalayan tourism. A trekking route will be built by combining culture and nature. with Based on the study, a special cultural village will be constructed.
(d) Efforts will be made to place Gorkha Durbar and Mankamana Temple in the International Heritage List.
(e) Barpak, which is the epicenter of the Gorkha earthquake of 2072, and the integrated settlements developed after the earthquake, will be promoted with plans to increase income along with tourism.
