"When people are in trouble, leaders are needed; the leader who came when they were asking for votes did not appear to work for the people," he says.

BIRATNAGAR: Bhola Chaudhary is a carpenter from Pothiya toll Budhiganga 5 in Morang. When he gets work, he works; otherwise, he spends his days talking with his friends.

Lately, his daily routine has gone on pointing out which leader has come to the village, which leader is what. He, who is 70 years old, does not like leaders waving flags at all.

He doesn’t understand that the leaders, who have not been seen in the village for five years, have been walking around waving flags for the past few days. According to Chaudhary, the leaders have failed to win the hearts of the people, claiming that instead of listening to the citizens’ sorrows and joys, they can get votes by driving around the house.

Taking aim at Dr. Shekhar Koirala, who has consistently run for office in this region, he stated, “Why should Shekhar be the only one to stand? If he was like Bijay Gachchdar, Shekhar Koirala was also a candidate.” There is also the issue of leaders not reaching out to voters.

“Even though Lal Babu is seen walking around meeting people, Shekhar Koirala is not even seen,” he said.

Chitthalal Sardar, who was discovered at Pothiya Chowk, also says that the leader has not come to the village. They claim that despite the fact that the elections are only ten days away, no leaders have arrived.

“Even yesterday’s leaders did not come, and those who lost did not even show their faces,” he said.

This is as he believes that all leaders have been corrupted by workers. Shivalal Sardar has made a living for a long time by selling paan. He was also dissatisfied with the previous leader’s actions. He stated that voting for a leader who does not come to meetings even during the election is pointless. He came to the conclusion that it is the workers who corrupt the leaders, and he is confident that if the workers are good, the leaders will improve as well.

“After the election, we cannot hope that the worker leader who chases after alcohol and meat will do much,” he said, adding that “no matter who the leader is, the workers will spoil it.” According to Sardar, the leaders are the ones who go to the voters and gossip about their sorrows and joys.

“When people are in trouble, leaders are needed; the leader who came when they were asking for votes did not appear to work for the people,” he says.

Kali Bahadur Tamang of Budhiganga Rural Municipality-7 Shanihat Chowk of Region No. 6 also says that a leader should be able to win the hearts of the people.

“We need a leader who can win the hearts of the people, he said. Even after being elected leader, he should be visible in development work.” He claims that he has never seen a leader who listens to his constituents. Govinda Kattel of Sadhutole, Gramthan Rural Municipality 7, Constituency No. 4, claims he did not receive a leader as promised.

He says that it does not matter which party comes, but they need a leader who will develop. “There is no way to say who will win the election, he said. Now we see only the kind of leaders who arrange wills, do not work, and eat together.”

Ghinulal Chaudhary, who was found in Gramathan Rural Municipality 5 Simariya Khadraha tole, believes that voters should elect and send leaders who are close to them. “He stated that there is no such thing as a victory in this election. We need a leader who can answer the phone, sit when visitors arrive, have tea together, and talk.”

It is impossible to predict who will win this election based solely on what voters say. In Morang region number 6, it is expected that Lal Babu Pandit of the CPN-UML, Dr. Shekhar Koirala of the Nepali Congress, and Gopal Katuwal Kshetri of the RPP will compete. Voters appear to dislike all three of them.
