KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court (SC) challenging Dr. Toshima Karki’s nomination as a member of the National Independent Party’s House of Representatives from Lalitpur-3. The commission has requested that Karki’s candidacy be withdrawn.

Dr. Karki had previously petitioned the SC after the EC rejected her candidacy.

SC issued an interim order in favor of Dr. Karki, ordering the Commission to proceed with the election while Karki’s candidacy was maintained.

However, as the Commission disagreed with some provisions of the court’s order, it went back to court to cancel Karki’s candidacy.

Pampha Bhusal, leader of the CPN Maoist Center, has been nominated as a member of the House of Representatives with the support of the ruling alliance from Lalitpur-3.

After Dr. Toshima’s candidacy is rejected, competition for Bhusal is expected to be easier.
