Kathmandu 1: Prakash Man & Rabindra in ‘Re-Match’, how much of a challenge to the new face?
Prakash Man Singh and Rabindra Mishra, the then-chairperson of the Bibeksheel Sajha Party, ran in the 2074 election.
KATHMANDU: All eyes are on Kathmandu, the country’s central capital, and Constituency 1. The question of who will win Kathmandu 1 in the upcoming elections on November 20 has piqued everyone’s interest.
Nepali Congress leader Prakash Man Singh, who joined the ruling coalition as a candidate in Kathmandu 1, is vying for a fifth term. Prakash Man Singh and Rabindra Mishra, the then-chairperson of the Bibeksheel Sajha Party, ran in the 2074 election.
Mishra was defeated in the election by a few votes. Prakash Man has won the Kathmandu 1 race four times, in 2051, 064, 070, and 074. Bibeksheel Sajha’s Mishra was defeated by a narrow margin in 074. Mishra has returned to face Prakash Man. ‘Rematch’ stars Rabindra and Prakash Man.
Rabindra, who had previously fought Bibeksheel, is not the same this time. He is running for RPP in Kathmandu 1. Mishra, the senior vice-chairperson of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (National Democratic Party), is asking Kathmandu 1 voters what the leader who has won many times has done for them.
CPN-UML has deployed its youth leader Kiran Paudel in the election field in Kathmandu 1, which has a small geography but a large number of voters. Poudel, the youth leader, is well-known among Kathmandu 1 voters. He was voting for the first time in that district. He is a new face in the world of MP elections. They’ve become a significant challenge for the old face.
Active in politics for four decades, after winning elections four times
UML leader Poudel is a tall big pillar in front of old faces, as he is known at the youth and local level, whether it is for Prakash Man, who has been a minister many times, or for Rabindra, who is now running for office from a different party, according to the leader.
Pukar Bam of the National Independent Party and Ramesh Kharel, chairperson of the Nepal Governance Party, have both entered the race. Candidates include Harisharan Shrestha of the Nepal Labor Farmers Party, Shankar Banjade of the Bibeksheel Sajha Party, Damber Shah of the Hamro Nepali Party, Harendra Chaudhary of the Janamat Party, and others. Independent candidates include Mira Bista, Dev Sharma, Nirjal Shah, Sangita Bogati, Sunita Basel, Goma Khatiwada Adhikari, Durga Prasad Limbu, Sita Tamang KC, and Kul Bahadur Tamang.
Account of Kathmandu 1
The Kathmandu area number one is small, but it has a large number of voters. This area includes Kathmandu Metropolitan Wards 10, 11, 29, and 31. The District Election Office reports that there are currently 45 thousand 18 voters in this area.
In the most recent local elections, the Nepali Congress received 9,895 votes in this district. The CPN-UML received 9,541 votes. The CPN Maoist center received 1159 votes. RPP Nepal received 1149 votes, while Bibeksheel Sajha received 273 votes.
In the local elections, Congress appears to have received more votes in this region. Congress received more votes in Wards 10, 11, and 29, while UML received more votes in Ward 31.
The results of the local elections in this area, however, cannot be used as a basis. Leaders of a simple life, such as Ramesh Kharel, the chairperson of Nepal Sushasan Party, who is staunchly opposed to corruption, are also running for office. The basis for the coalition’s vote to go to all Prakash Man is not seen in Kathmandu 1. It is difficult to predict how voters will view Rabindra Mishra, who came from a different background. However, it appears that good votes will be distributed unevenly in Kathmandu 1.
Prakash Man, who has won numerous times, claims that he broke the communists’ stronghold in that area. He claims that his victory is certain. Prakas Man is approaching voters by claiming to be the next Prime Minister.
Ravindra Mishra, on the other hand, claims that he was defeated by a total of 400 votes, and that voters have stated that they will definitely vote for him this time. Mishra is campaigning in Kathmandu 1 with the slogans “End extreme political interference,” “Corruption Control,” and “Good Governance.”
Poudel, the leader of the UML, has also declared victory. Paudel, who rose through the ranks of youth politics, is the president of the UML’s fraternal organization, Youth Association Nepal. He campaigned for voters under the banners of prosperity and good governance, as well as youth leadership.
Similarly, Ramesh Kharel, former DIG of Nepal Police, and Pukar Bam, a youth leader from the National Independent Party led by Rabi Lamichhane, are urging voters to prevent access to and holding of positions in the Singha Durbar.
Kharel, who entered politics after leaving the police force, is canvassing voters’ homes, claiming that his candidacy is intended to end the country’s distortions and maintain good governance. Overall, the new face has presented a significant challenge to the old face in this area.
