Toshima appealing the EC’s decision to SC (with photos)

KATHMANDU: Dr. Toshima Karki, a National Independent Party candidate in Lalitpur Constituency No. 3, announced today in a peaceful meeting at Maitighar Mandala that she will file a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Election Commission’s decision.

Last Saturday, the Election Commission declared Karki ineligible to run for office and canceled her candidacy.

Karki’s candidacy was rejected by the commission on the grounds that a person who benefited from holding a public position had submitted his candidacy without resigning. Karki is a member of the Nepal Medical Council.

She also said that she wrote a letter on Sept 13 and asked the commission whether the position of member of the council is a position of profit or not.

Dr. Karki claims that as the writ was filed today, senior advocates Bhimarjun Acharya, Dinesh Tripathi, and others will argue on his behalf.
