KATHMANDU: The devotees concluded the Chhath festival by offering arghya to the rising sun this morning.
The basic Chhath ritual begins with Kartik Shukla Chaturthi and ends with offering arghya to the sun as it sets in the evening on Shashti and rises in the morning on Saptami.
Devotees stayed awake all night on the banks of rivers, lakes, and ponds in various Terai districts, including Kathmandu, to complete Chhath and worship the rising sun god.
Those who offered arghya to the setting sun and sixth mother yesterday evening sat awake all night today to worship the rising sun. In Kathmandu, devotees worshiped Chhath on the banks of rivers such as the Guhyeshwori, Kamal Pokhari, Bagmati, Nakhkhu, and Bishnumati.
Devotees also ended their 36-hour-long perennial fasting after offering worship to the sun god on Monday morning.
With this, the devotees returned home from the river banks (Chhati Ghat) by concluding the grand festival where the shining and setting suns are worshipped with devotion.
