KATHMANDU: Due to their inclusion on the closed list, candidates who have not paid the fine will face action from the Election Commission (EC).

Prior to this, the commission made the decision to strike the names of candidates from the closed list who had run in the municipal elections conducted on May 14 (Baisakh 31) but had failed to pay the required fines.

The Commission had extended the deadline to pay the fine to Saturday, Kartik 5 (Oct 22) in accordance with the same ruling. The Commission is getting ready to proportionally remove the candidates from the closed list who don’t pay the fee.

The political party submitted the names of 408 candidates who did not disclose their expenses to the closed list of proportionality in order for them to participate in the upcoming elections. Some have already paid the fine to the commission, while the majority have yet to do so.

A decision on this will be made today, according to Guruprasad Wagle, spokesperson for the proportional election system. “We have already requested the details from the election officer’s office in each district,” Wagle said to Nepal Khabar, adding that “all the details were received by Saturday evening.” The commission will make a decision today based on the same facts.’
