Vitamin 'A' has been introduced under the National Vitamin A program for children aged 6 to 59 months, as well as deworming medicine for children aged 1 to 5 years.
KATHMANDU: From today Wednesday to tomorrow Thursday (Oct 19 and 20), the government of Nepal has begun distributing vitamin A capsules and deworming medicine to children across the country via all 753 local municipalities.
Vitamin ‘A’ has been introduced under the National Vitamin A program for children aged 6 to 59 months, as well as deworming medicine for children aged 1 to 5 years.
According to the Family Welfare Division of the Department of Health Services of the Government of Nepal, the government intends to provide vitamin A to approximately 2.7 million children aged 6 to 59 months, as well as deworming medicine to more than 23 lakh 93 thousand children, during this two-day campaign.
To reduce the risk of health complications and malnutrition in children aged 6 to 59 months, the government has been giving Vitamin A twice a year since 2053 and deworming medicine every 6-6 months since 2058.
Bal Bita will be distributed to children of this age group as part of this campaign. The government has also asked the general public to give their children vitamin A and deworming medicine through the nearest female community health volunteer in each of the 753 municipalities.
